What A Fool Stuff

I ran across the lyrics to this, one of my favorite songs of all time today, and the truth in these words still amaze me. I had a long conversation with someone back in my long ago just last night, but the difference is, that what we had (back in Delaware) was real. I never imagined we would talk about the good times the way we did last night, or that I would be moved to tears. I hope to speak with him again soon.

I’ve run into a couple of PP’s (partners from the past) who these lyrics really DO apply to. My memory might be of my escape from their clutches – they remember the “good times.”

What A Fool Believes – The Doobie Brothers

“He came from somewhere back in her long ago
The sentimental fool don’t see
Tryin’ hard to recreate
What had yet to be created once in her life

She musters a smile for his nostalgic tale
Never coming near what he wanted to say
Only to realize
It never really was

She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As he rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He’s watching her go

But what a fool believes … he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems … to be
Is always better than nothing
And nothing at all keeps sending him …

Somewhere back in her long ago
Where he can still believe there’s a place in her life
Someday, somewhere, she will return

She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As he rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He’s watching her go

But what a fool believes … he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems … to be
Is always better than nothing
There’s nothing at all
What seems … to be
Is always better than nothing
There’s nothing at all
But what a fool believes he sees …
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems … to be
Is always better than nothing”

I know this song. I never relly listened to the words, other thank mindlessly singing along. Now, you print the words, with no music to back them up, and I am reading words I never really heard before.

Hmmm… it really makes me think.
    What is real?
How do the exes feel when they remember me?
It’s stupid of me, but I had always assumed they saw the same thing I did. Or maybe that they never thought about me at all.
I wonder if they regret losing me, or if they’re glad I’m gone?

LOVE this song but never really sat down and read the lyrics by itself. So wierd. because the tempo is kind of upbeat that the lyrics almost don’t match. Does that make sense?

This comment sounds like I’m SMOKING a doobie…
